What makes us different?
CMCS are pioneers in the field of Geotechnical monitoring with a proven global track record.
Our optimal sizing provides the business agility required to react quickly and the flexibility
to deploy new solutions to existing problems. Our low overheads enable us to provide cost
effective services minimizing risk in the construction industry.
Company History
CMCS Ltd was formed in March 1993 in anticipation of the Jubilee Line Extension Project.
The Managing Director and founder, Gerwyn Price, worked in the geotechnical division at the
Building Research Establishment (BRE) for 23 years. He pioneered many geotechnical monitoring
techniques as well as developing long term monitoring solutions giving CMCS firm foundations to
lead in this field.
CMCS specialise in providing information to limit the level of risk associated with gradual or
imposed changes on civil engineering structures, providing if required local or remote alert
systems if allowable thresholds in performance are exceeded.
Since its formation in 1993 CMCS have carried out a diverse range of projects from large
infrastructure monitoring projects like the Jubilee Line Extension Project contracts 102 & 104,
the Second Severn Crossing and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link to historic buildings like the
Mansion House and Castel del Ovo in Naples. CMCS have also completed some unique projects like
the monitoring of a 270m TV and radio transmission mast near Cardiff during digital upgrade work,
as you can see from the picture the installation was certainly interesting.
While mainly operating in the UK, CMCS has carried out projects in Spain, Italy, The Czech Republic,
Canada, The USA, Brazil, Malaysia and Thailand and has also supplied equipment to The Pontifical
Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for use in China including on the Tianshenqiao Dam,
the largest rock filled dam in the world.
CMCS have a policy of continual R & D; we have grown and developed throughout the years to incorporate
the latest technology in our products:
Initially we operated an office and workshop from the Watford BRE site, but in 2009 the workshop
side was moved from the Watford offices to a new site in Monmouthshire, Wales. The move was to upgrade
the manufacturing facilities to triple the floor space we currently owned. At the
same time CMCS
international Ltd was set up by David Rees and a partnership was formed. The company
with its founder, who has 31 years experience as a chartered marketer, was to take charge of the marketing front for CMCS Ltd.
Currently we employ 5 core people who each have a diverse range of skills to service all our customers’ needs.
Our goal for the immediate future is a marketing campaign to push our new products and to bring our services to
new sectors allowing us to expand our core workforce.
Mission Statement
CMCS’ mission statement is to continually strive for excellence so that it can provide
its customers with reliable and timely information to limit their level of risk, while
providing a rewarding and safe working future for its employees.
Training and Development
We firmly believe that the right tools should be used for the right job. Having a good training
program will reflect in the quality of the product and service received by the end user. Training
our workforce to attain a large range of skill sets allows for understanding that each process within
the company will affect another. This overlapping of skill sets allows ideas to flow freely between employees of the company.
We ensure that all employees are trained in every aspect of the company’s operations from liaising
with customers to installation of systems on site. Our training schemes are all carried out in house
and are constantly being reviewed and updated to make sure they provide the most effective method to carry out a task.
